The village is an old Walser settlement, which can still be seen today in the way the houses are built and the colouring of the M\u00fcrren dialect. It is assumed that the first people came from the Walser valley via the Wetterl\u00fccke.<\/p><p><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">1789<\/span><\/strong><br \/>Opening of the first school. 23 children (out of 105 inhabitants) attended it.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>1857<\/strong><\/span><br \/>Heinrich von Allmen of the Winteregg mountain community built the first inn, the simple \"Hotel Silberhorn\".<\/p><p><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>1870<\/strong><\/span><br \/>The tenant of the Hotel Silberhorn built his own hotel, the \"Hotel M\u00fcrren\", in front of the Hotel Silberhorn. Later, the two houses were combined to form the \"Grand Hotel and Kurhaus\" and developed into a successful large business in the 1980s.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>1872<\/strong><\/span><br \/>The stately Hotel des Alpes (today's Palace) was opened.<\/p><p><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">1884<\/span><\/strong><br \/>The Hotel des Alpes was destroyed by fire during a F\u00f6hn storm and then rebuilt more beautifully and better as the Grand Hotel des Alpes. M\u00fcrren's heyday as a successful health resort began. Noblemen, politicians, poets, painters and scholars sought relaxation and inspiration here.<\/p><p><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">1889<\/span><\/strong><br \/>Construction of the Lauterbrunnen-M\u00fcrren mountain railway (BLM) begins. Until now, travellers had reached the village via the Lauterbrunnen-M\u00fcrren and Stechelberg-Gimmelwald-M\u00fcrren footpaths.<\/p><p><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">1891<\/span><\/strong><br \/>The BLM was inaugurated. The number of travellers to M\u00fcrren increased by leaps and bounds. The major fire destroyed the Edelweiss, Amstutz (today's Alpina) and Des Alpes hotels. The fire then ate its way up into the Aegertenwald and out of the valley, where it threatened Lauterbrunnen. The following day, the f\u00f6hn broke down and the rain extinguished the fires.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>1928 <\/strong><\/span><br \/>On 29 January, after a five-hour ascent, 18 participants, including 4 ladies, started on the Schilthorn for the first Inferno race to Lauterbrunnen.
